Mieczysław Kuczma is a full professor at the Poznan University of Technology (PUT), Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transport. He received his education in civil engineering at PUT and in applied mathematics at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He earned the degrees of Doctor of Engineering (Dr inż.) and Doctor habilitatus (Dr hab.) from PUT and was subsequently awarded the title of Professor by the President of the Republic of Poland.
Professor Kuczma has conducted research at PUT, the University of Zielona Góra, and several international institutions, including Leibniz University Hannover (IBNM, IfAM), Brunel University London (BICOM), the University of Texas at Austin (Oden Institute), and TU Dresden. His research focuses on the mechanics of solids and structures, with particular emphasis on modelling concrete and shape memory materials, as well as numerical methods for variational inequality formulations governing complex deformation processes.
Professor Kuczma served two terms as President of the Polish Association for Computational Mechanics (2013–2015, 2015–2017). He has organized numerous national and international conferences, including the International Conference on Computer Methods in Mechanics (CMM 2009) and the 95th Annual Meeting of the Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM 2025). He is a member of the Committee on Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and serves as Chair of the Section on Applications of Mathematics in Mechanics.
