Prof. Dai Yeun Jeong

Director of Asia Climate Change Education Center, South Korea

Since March 2012, I have served as the Director of the Asia Climate Change Education Center in South Korea and as Emeritus Professor of Environmental Sociology at Jeju National University, where I was previously a professor from 1981 to 2012. Additionally, I have been the Acting Director of the Jeju Secretariat for UNESCO's World Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves since 2013. I hold a BA and MA in Sociology from Korea University and a PhD in Environmental Sociology from The University of Queensland, Australia. Over the course of my career, I have held several prominent positions, including President of the Asia-Pacific Sociological Association, Teaching Professor at The University of Sheffield, and member of South Korea's Presidential Commission on Sustainable Development. I have also represented the South Korean government as a delegate to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the OECD Environmental Meetings. As a Research Associate for the Environmental Policy Committee of South Korea's National Assembly, I have contributed to numerous sustainable development initiatives. My academic output includes 13 books, such as Environmental Sociology, and 60 research papers published in both domestic and international journals. I have also led over 100 environment-related research projects funded by various domestic and international organizations.
