Dr. Ugursal is a professor of mechanical engineering at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. He teaches courses on thermodynamics, energy management, heating, ventilating and air-conditioning and energy conversion. His research and consulting areas include energy management and conservation, energy conversion systems for electric power and heat generation, building thermal systems and modeling of energy consumption in the residential sector.
Dr. Ugursal worked in various areas of energy engineering as a consultant, researcher, teacher and project director. He worked on energy and international development projects in Canada, Turkey, Sierra Leone, Russia, Columbia, The Gambia, Trinidad and Tobago, the Philippines and Thailand. He received more than 40 research contracts and grants as the project director/principal investigator.
Before starting his academic career he worked as a consulting engineer specializing in energy management and conservation conducting a wide range of energy conservation projects in the commercial and institutional building sector. Prior to consulting, he worked as a research engineer on solar energy and industrial energy efficiency projects.
He graduated more than 50 doctoral and master’s students and published extensively in his areas of expertise. He served on numerous national and international research and engineering committees, and put some time in academic administration as associate dean and department head.
