Leonardo Montagnani
University of BolzanoItaly
Born in Varese (Italy), Professor Leonardo Montagnani is a renowned scientist in the field of global biogeochemistry and climate change. He is Endowed Professor at the Faculty of Agricultural. Environment and food sciences at the Free University of Bolzano. He Editor of the Journals Sustainability, Peerj and Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, all Q1 Journals.
As a multidisciplinary researcher, he received the nomination of High Cited Author in Cross-Field in the year 2018. Now, for the H index and total citations, he is ranked among the first 3% of world scientists according to the AD Scientific Index classification.
Starting his career as a specialist in carbon dioxide and water vapour measurements with the eddy covariance technique, he later became a leading scientist in the study of carbon sequestration measurements and he is currently ranked among the first 10 world scientists on the topic ‘Biogeochemical Cycles’. In particular, he developed an Eulerian-based approach to quantify the CO2 advection in complex terrain, and he became the leading author for the definition of the protocol for the measurement of the storage of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, currently adopted at the European level in the Integrated Carbon Observation System infrastructure (ICOS).
More recently, he broadened his interest to encompass the concepts of sustainability at different scales, from regional to global, taking into consideration the different sustainability thresholds and planetary boundaries.
